Kirk Cousins was a rusty quarterback not long ago. It looks like that rust has come off. 

‌

Cousins didn't get to 18 fantasy points in any of his September starts, but it's all a distant memory after an instant classic Thursday. Cousins threw for an Atlanta record 509 yards and four touchdowns in prime time, including the walk-off winner to KhaDarel Hodge in overtime, as the Falcons got past the Buccaneers, 36-30. Cousins can now rest on his 31.36 fantasy points for Week 5; catch me if you can.

Here's what you need to know:

Entire Atlanta passing game comes home: We obviously can't count on 58 pass attempts every week, but with Cousins settling in and averaging 8.8 yards per attempt, it was a great night for his downfield targets. 

‌

Drake London was uncoverable all evening (12-154-1, 13 targets), shaking off an early concussion scare and dominating. Darnell Mooney is shockingly just 47% rostered in Yahoo, despite robust route-participation numbers. He had a 9-105-2 explosion against the Bucs, and that included two dropped passes. The Hodge game-winning score was a fluke opportunity, with London needing a brief rest, but it was lovely to welcome Kyle Pitts (7-88-0, eight targets) to the fresh season. Even Ray-Ray McCloud drew nine targets, good for 66 receiving yards. Atlanta can keep the good vibes going at Carolina next week.

Tampa Bay passing just fine on modest volume: The Bucs raced out to 24 first-half points, then struggled to sustain drives in the second half. Ultimately Tampa Bay ran 30 fewer snaps than the Falcons. But it's hard to knock Baker Mayfield on a night where he throws for three touchdowns and posts a 137.5 rating, and two-thirds of the attempts went to the three amigos of Mike Evans (5-62-2), Chris Godwin (5-64-0) and Cade Otton (3-44-0). Pinball scoring could follow next week at New Orleans.

Platoon-heavy backfields return small numbers: While Cousins and Mayfield were lighting up the sky, the running backs struggled to gain traction — no tailback in this game made it to 10 fantasy points. Bijan Robinson had 60% of Atlanta's backfield opportunities but it resulted in a modest 77 total yards, and for the fourth time in five games, no touchdown. At least he was more efficient than Tyler Allgeier (nine touches, 25 yards).

Rachaad White had one 56-yard run; his other 11 touches netted just 10 yards. Bucky Irving (9-44 rushing, 2-12 receiving) was effective with his chances, though he did lose a fourth-quarter fumble. We have to note that 13 of Tampa Bay's 14 touchdowns this year have been routed through Baker Mayfield (11 passes, two runs); the Tampa Bay backs have combined for just one spike. 

You don't have to be right all that often to win a fantasy football league. You just have to be a little more right than the teams sitting next to you.

At least that's what I keep telling myself. 

‌

Transparency and humbleness are always welcome in this corner, so here are the top five things I got wrong on the 2024 season — at least, as things sit entering Week 5. 

‌

👊 Alvin Kamara: I had concerns about Kamara stepping into an age-29 season and working behind a suspect offensive line, but the blocking has been fine and Kamara has already collected 536 total yards and five touchdowns. Kamara's also on pace for a career-best 340 carries (100 past his previous high), so the Saints need to be judicious forward. But so far, he looks terrific. 

‌

💪 Saquon Barkley: Barkley averaged a mere 4.4 yards per touch in his final four New York seasons, but that's perked up to 6.1 in his opening Philadelphia month. Barkley also has five quick touchdowns, opposed to just two tush push scores for Jalen Hurts. 

‌

💨 J.K. Dobbins: He played in just 9-of-51 games the three previous seasons, so I treated him carefully all summer, despite the assumption that Jim Harbaugh would run the ball liberally. Alas, there's been plenty of pep in every Dobbins step; he's averaging 6.1 yards per carry, opposed to just 3.0 for Gus Edwards. Dobbins also has 10 catches to just one for the Gus Bus.

📉 Breece Hall: I thought Hall would be one of the most bankable bell cows, but 20-year-old Braelon Allen has pushed for an immediate role in the Jets offense and New York has struggled to finish drives at the goal line. 

‌

📈 Jahmyr Gibbs: I've always loved the talent, I just wasn't sure how much volume and goal-line work Gibbs would be given. But the Detroit offense has steered more into the running attack this year, allowing Gibbs to score four times and easily outkick his summer ADP. Meanwhile, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta have been mild fantasy disappointments through four games, though they were trending upward during last week's win over Seattle.

✅ Green Light

‌

WR Jayden Reed at Rams: In the two Jordan Love starts this year, Reed has finished WR1 and WR2 in half-point PPR scoring. Giddy up. 

‌

RB Alexander Mattison at Broncos: It won't be easy sledding, but he's earned extra work, and Zamir White is dinged-up besides. So much of running back fantasy analysis comes down to solving for opportunity. 

‌

WR Wan'Dale Robinson at Seahawks: He's a PPR monster right now and the Giants might need him more if Malik Nabers (concussion) isn't able to play. 

‌

TE Tucker Kraft at Rams: We're dying for tight ends we can trust, and Kraft is coming off nine targets, six catches and a touchdown. Don't ignore that two-point conversion catch, either; that reflects future goal-line equity. 

‌

🫤 Yellow Light

‌

RB Breece Hall vs. Vikings (London): He's too talented to sit, but the Jets can't unsee how electric rookie Braelon Allen has been. Both players might see goal-line opportunities; the first to convert a short touchdown likely gets the baton. 

‌

RB Kareem Hunt vs. Saints: He's no longer an explosive back, but the Chiefs trust him and Carson Steele was marginalized after a fumble last week. 

‌

WR Brandon Aiyuk vs. Cardinals: Do we have to accept he's a better real-life player than a fantasy one? Last year's dream efficiency was never a good bet to repeat, and the Niners don't go out of their way to pepper Aiyuk with targets. Jauan Jennings is going to steal some opportunities, too. 

‌

RB Rhamondre Stevenson vs. Dolphins: The Patriots don't want to back off their feature back, who was paid in the offseason. But Stevenson has four fumbles in four weeks; one more could result in a benching. 

‌

WR Tyreek Hill at Patriots: The quarterback room is downright depressing, but Hill's targets should bounce back and he only needs one big play to justify a start. He's too talented to bench. 

‌

🛑 Red Light

‌

QB Patrick Mahomes vs. Saints: He's a signature player in a prime-time game, but his fantasy slump is almost a year old and the receiving room has significant questions. Our game is about numbers, not names. 

‌

WR Jakobi Meyers at Broncos: His role in the offense could be expanding with Davante Adams likely headed out of town. But consider Meyers for future weeks, not this Sunday when he's marooned on Surtain Island.

‌

RB Rico Dowdle vs. Cowboys: He continues to move Ezekiel Elliott out of the way, but the Steelers have been the league's worst matchup for opposing running backs. 

‌

WR Garrett Wilson vs. Vikings (London): I'm at believe-it-when-I-see-it mode with Wilson, and his fantasy managers can't be thrilled about the Davante Adams rumors. 

Good fantasy managers need to do their injury diligence before settling on a starting lineup. Here's the latest: 

‌

The Chiefs placed Rashee Rice (knee) on injured reserve, so he's out for at least four games. The team will continue to send Rice for more tests, hoping he might be able to play again this season. 

‌

Malik Nabers (concussion) might be a game-time decision Sunday at Seattle, although head coach Brian Daboll has been cautious when discussing Nabers all week. Make sure you have a late pivot ready, and stash Nabers into a flex spot so you have the widest range of replacement options. 

‌

Davante Adams (hamstring) isn't expected to play Week 5 against the Broncos, and it's possible he might not play for the Raiders again. Adams has expressed interest in a trade to the Jets or Saints, aiming to reunite with Aaron Rodgers or Derek Carr, though other teams could be in play. 

‌

Anthony Richardson (oblique) had a limited practice Thursday and it's not clear if he'll be able to play against Jacksonville. Joe Flacco is the fallback option. Jonathan Taylor (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday and Thursday, likely opening the way for Trey Sermon to start. 

‌

Nick Chubb (knee) has returned to practice, opening up his 21-day window to return to the active roster. He's not expected to play Week 5. 

‌

Trey McBride (concussion) had a full practice Thursday and looks ready to play against the 49ers.

‌

Taysom Hill has rib fractures and might not be able to play Monday against Kansas City. 

‌

Zamir White (groin) didn't practice Thursday, and even if he plays Sunday, it's likely he'll back up Alexander Mattison.

‌

Evan Engram (hamstring) had limited practices the last two days, giving him a chance to return against the Colts. 

‌

Tank Dell (chest) had a limited practice Thursday and appears to be trending in the right direction for Sunday's game against Buffalo. But Joe Mixon (ankle) is expected to be out, and Dameon Pierce (hamstring) is also injured, which means Cam Akers might need to start again. 

‌

Devin Singletary (groin) missed the last two practices, but has a chance to play if he can work Friday. Tyrone Tracy is the next man up for the Giants. 

‌

David Njoku (ankle) had a scheduled day off Thursday after logging a limited practice the previous day. He has a chance to play Sunday against Washington.
